Jenny Randerson AM, the Health Spokesperson for the Welsh Liberal Democrats today challenged Brian Gibbons in Plenary about the disparity between Ambulance workloads in the 'North Wales' and 'South East Wales' regions[1] as part of her questioning about the Welsh Ambulance service.

She said "The number of emergency responses and urgent patient journeys per ambulance crew for July 2006 was 55.3 for the South East Wales Region and 40.1 for the North Region. I don't want fewer ambulances for North Wales but more for South East Wales which includes Cardiff, Newport and the Valleys.

"Brian Gibbons is making the right noises about the need for modernising the ambulance service but it remains to be seen whether he lives up to his words and provides the money for the vital capital investment.

"Ambulance workers are working extremely hard all across Wales and their commitment needs to be matched by that of the Labour Assembly Government."
