103 too Many Serious and Fatal Accidents on Cardiff Roads

Cardiff Central AM Jenny Randerson, commenting on the levels of serious and fatal accidents on Cardiff Roads said "103 bad accidents is 103 too many, As we enter the Christmas period it is important to remember to discourage drinking and driving and to take care in the increasingly blustery and dark conditions.

"The number of young people involved in serious accidents in Wales is a particular concern especially as I represent such a young constituency. Road users need to be aware and take a little more care"

Notes:

2005 Road Casualties Wales was released yesterday. Key figures include: An increase in the number of 16-19 year olds killed or seriously injured (KSIs), which rose from 193 in 2004 to 219 in 2005; the biggest increase in casualties for 16-19 year olds seem to come from car (and minibus and taxi) users (1566 casualties in 2005, compared to the 1994-98 average of 1426); the number of 16-25 year olds killed in 2005 was 69, compared to 61 in 2004, and the 1994-98 average of 57.

103 Serious and Fatal accidents occurred in the Cardiff unitary authority during 2005 compared to 84 in 2004 and 79 in 2003
