Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

READY, STEADY, HUSH FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

12.39.25pm GMT Tue 23rd Jan 2007

Jenny Randerson AM is challenging local children in Cardiff Central to keep silent for Macmillan

Cancer Support's annual sponsored silence "The Big Hush" on Friday 26January 2007.

As part of the challenge, the children will take part in a creative writing competition in either English or Welsh. The English language competition will be judged by the Children's author Anne Fine. Based on her successful book Loudmouth Louis, the competition invites children to write a short story. The Welsh language competition will be judged by poet Mererid Hopwood and asks children to write a poem entitled "Gwella"- 'Getting Better'. There are three age categories (years 2-3, 3-6 and 7+), prizes for the winners and a special chance to meet the former Children's Bard when she visits the winning children's schools.

Jenny Randerson AM for Cardiff Central said "This is a great way that young people can make a difference for people affected by cancer in Wales by supporting Macmillan Cancer Support. Plus it's a great opportunity to guarantee some peace and quiet in the New Year!"

Jenny is encouraging schools and after-school groups to take part in the fundraiser to help Macmillan raise £13,000 for Wales. The money raised will help Macmillan support children and their families affected by cancer through Macmillan nurses and doctors, treatment centres, cancer information and financial help.
