We will bring back the Post Office Development Fund11.05.56am GMT Thu 8th Mar 2007
Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, Jenny Randerson, said, "The Post Office Development Fund that Welsh Liberal Democrats put in place during the Partnership Government awarded £4.1 million to 106 post offices across Wales serving deprived and isolated communities. "It allowed sub-postmasters and mistresses to diversify product ranges, improve accessibility and increase security. It sustained vital services during a time when many rural communities were losing them - until Labour closed the Fund in 2004. "The Welsh Liberal Democrats have a clear position on post offices. We believe that a strong branch network across Wales helps all our communities to stay alive and thriving. "Rhodri Morgan promised to re-instate the Fund, but he hasn't said when. The Welsh Liberal Democrats will bring back the fund because we value the role Post Offices play at the heart of local communities."
