Shadow Minister comes to Cardiff3.13.32pm GMT Fri 23rd Mar 2007 This Saturday (24/03/07) Stephen Williams MP who is Lib Dem Shadow Minister for Higher and Further Education will be coming to the student areas of Cardiff to help reaffirm the Welsh Liberal Democrats commitment to fight top up fees. Stephen Williams will be joining Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Cardiff North, Cllr. Ed Bridges at Cardiff University Library to conduct a student survey, before meeting students in Cathays with Jenny Randerson, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Cardiff Central. Jenny Randerson AM said, "The fact that our spokesperson on education from Westminster is prepared to come to Cardiff to engage with the many students in Cardiff show that we are a party that truly cares about education." Cllr. Ed Bridges added, "Education is key to giving people opportunities and allowing them to be the best they can be. We believe in removing the barriers that stop people learning. That's why we have led the opposition to tuition and top-up fees. "Education is at the heart of a successful economy." Ends/diwedd Notes: Welsh Liberal Democrats prevented the Labour Party from introducing top-up fees in Wales for Welsh-domiciled students. As part of our manifesto, we will guarantee at least the present financial support to Welsh students in Welsh HEIs up to 2011. If in 2009 the UK Gov lift cap on top up fees we will do everything we can afford to mitigate the impact on Welsh students.
