REMPLOY REDEPLOYMENT PROPOSALS

Jenny Randerson, Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, has today written to Remploy seeking reassurances on their redeployment proposals.

Jenny said: "A disabled constituent, who has worked for Remploy for 31 years, has contacted me regarding his future employment prospects. He is too young to take a pension and wants to continue his working career and actively contribute to society.

"Remploy have offered a number of options to their disabled employees, including staying a Remploy employee but being redeployed to work at another company or, where there is a suitable vacancy, finding a job in another part of Remploy.

"I am, therefore, seeking clarification as to future redundancy rights and the reality of finding suitable alternative employment within a reasonable travelling distance.

"I have also subscribed to a Welsh Assembly Statement of Opinion expressing concern at Remploy's propoals to close 7 of its Welsh factories; agreeing with the Trade Unions that there is a continued need for supported employment and that mainstream employment is not suitable for everyone; noting that Remploy workers have made the conscious decision to work rather than spend a lifetime on benefits and calling on WAG to work with the DTI to ensure there are no closures or job losses".
