Cardiff AM welcomes initiative on carbon monoxide poisoning.12.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th Oct 2007
Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, Jenny Randerson AM has welcomed the beginning of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, and an initiative run by two Welsh organisations to reduce deaths from "the silent killer." The initiative, run by Age Concern Cymru and Wales and West Utilities, will see a new leaflet distributed to elderly people by Wales and West staff and through Age Concern Cymru's networks. The leaflet will help to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning and safety Jenny Randerson AM said: "The number of deaths and serious injuries caused by carbon monoxide poisoning are shocking. Wales is one of the black-spots for carbon monoxide poisoning and elderly people are among the most at risk. "I am pleased to see that Wales and West and Age Concern Cymru have come together to help raise awareness and save lives. "I would hope that this initiative will prove a great success and become a regular winter campaign. I wish everyone involved all the best with their campaign. Notes: Wales is the second most at risk area for carbon monoxide in the UK, and elderly people are among the most at risk. Carbon Monoxide week runs nationwide all this week. Ends/diwedd
