Lib Dems launch campaign to save local post office4.51.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 26th Oct 2007 Following the shock news that Labour want to close the sub-Post Office on Salisbury Rd in Cathays, local Welsh Liberal Democrats, led by councillors Jon Aylwin, Joseph Carter and Simon Wakefield, have launched a campaign to save it. The Cardiff Liberal Democrats have launched a special website today at www.savecardiffspostoffices.co.uk to try and raise awareness to Labour's Post Office closure plans and to collect signatures against the plans. Local Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Jenny Randerson, commented, "I am appalled that the Labour Government and the Post Office has chosen to close this branch on Salisbury Road. This is just the sort of Post Office branch that would have been able to expand and prosper if the Labour Assembly Government hadn't abolished the Post Office Development Fund" Cllr. Simon Wakefield added, "The Salisbury Road Post Office is heavily used by the local community and by local businesses. Salisbury Road Post Office is an important part of the local district shopping centre and there is a real fear that if it is forced to close, other businesses may follow." "Over the last few years the sub postmaster has diversified by establishing an Internet café and by selling a wide selection of stationery to the local student population." "The Cathays Liberal Democrats will fight to save our local post office."
