Jenny Randerson is concerned about placements for junior doctors

Following the news last week that thousands of Junior Doctors will be left without specialist training positions, Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Jenny Randerson AM has described the crisis as a national scandal.

It is thought that most posts across the UK will have at least three applicants with many junior doctors left without positions at the end of their training.

Jenny Randerson said: This is a national scandal. Thousands of expensively trained and hard working junior doctors are being left without jobs at the end of their training.

?This is a worrying trend and suggests that resources are being completely wasted. What is the point of spending millions on training if there are no positions for junior doctors at the end of the process.?

Notes:

1. The NHS Employers body warned last week that specialist training places across the UK would see extensive competition in the coming year. They estimated an average of 3 applicants per position across the UK. Without a training post, it is impossible for a junior doctor to become a consultant or a GP.
