Final death knell sounds for Post Offices1.20.04pm GMT Fri 18th Jan 2008
Cardiff Central AM Jenny Randerson has reacted angrily to the news that five Post Offices in Cardiff will definitely be closed thanks to Labour's closure programme. After a strong community campaign, one of the threatened Post Offices in Splott Road, just outside of Jenny's constituency has been saved but five more, including Salisbury Road in Cathays will now be closed. Jenny Randerson said: "This is not just a sad day for these branches, their owners and their customers, it is a sad day for community spirit across Cardiff. "Thanks to the Labour Party's removal of Government business and demands that thousands of branches are closed, the Post Office have chosen to withdraw these services. Communities such as Cathays have now lost an integral part of their community structure and it is the elderly and vulnerable who will be hardest hit." "I am glad that they have thought again about Splott Road, many of my constituents use this branch and Liberal Democrats there have been campaigning with the community to save services. The fact remains that five branches are being closed and that is truly sad." Notes: Ends/
